The African Children’s Choir in Kenya recently recorded “Sing” with Gary Barlow for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Kenya is significant for Elizabeth, as she was in Kenya when her father King George VI died — thus she famously checked into the Treetops hotel in Kenya on February 5, 1952 as a princess and checked out the next morning February 6, 1952 as a Queen, having succeeded to the throne during the course of the night. She also did not learn of her succession on leaving the hotel but only learned of it several hours later as she arrived at a lodge. Elizabeth II is therefore also the only monarch in modern history who was unaware of the exact time of her succession.
